sporting event,
set to break all records from the first two years of the rock and race
extravaganza.
The absolute greats of Australian rock will
appear on the same card on the Saturday night, 3rd of December.
One of the country’s legendary bands Hunters
& Collectors is reforming for a one-off
and once only concert after 13 years and the “Voice” John Farnham is
playing his only major outdoor concert of the year.
The incredible Noiseworks is also set
to rock and James Reyne will perform his unforgettable hits.
Rarely before have so many Australian greats
appeared on the same card and on the same stage in what will be a night to
cherish, along with a day of world class motorsport as the V8 Supercars grand
final plays out on the track.
It is reminiscent of the inaugural Sydney
Telstra 500 when iconic Aussie rockers Cold Chisel came back for what
was then a one-off performance in front of a packed ANZ Stadium.
“There is nothing more Australian than V8
Supercars and these incredible home-grown artists and bands that have been the
constant of Aussie rock for decades,” V8 Supercar Chairman Tony Cochrane said at today’s announcement in Sydney.
“From the very first year the Sydney Telstra
500 has been an unbelievable success, with more than 350,000 people attending
the first two events and ensuring New
South Wales has one of the biggest annual sporting
events in the country.
“This lineup and our final Championship races
of the 2011 season is an incredible mix for Sydney and the thousands of
visitors that will travel from interstate and overseas to watch the weekend
unfold. We are proud to deliver this event for the state and our fans.”
ARIA Award winning Sydney
hip hop sensation Bliss N Eso plus
multi platinum selling rock band Jebediah
were also announced as leading the Friday night concert bill at the Sydney
Telstra 500 with more acts to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
Tickets go on sale at 9am tomorrow for the
Sydney Telstra 500, the V8 Supercars Championship Series grand final that takes
place this year on 2-4 December at Sydney Olympic
Park.
It’s been 13 years since ARIA Hall of Fame
inductees, Hunters & Collectors, disbanded with only one show since at the
Sound Relief concert in Melbourne on 14 March,
2009. The band’s lead singer, Mark
Seymour, said "After performing a benefit concert for the victims of the
Victorian bushfires in 2009, Hunters & Collectors realised they could still
cut it on the big stage: The MCG, 80,000 people. Could it get any bigger?
Maybe. Jump to 2011. V8s. ANZ Stadium. The band got asked again. We believe the
gig is big enough. Bring it on!"
Celebrating the 25th
anniversary of the multi platinum Whispering Jack album this year, John
Farnham has been selling out theatre shows across the country and this
appearance at the Sydney Telstra 500 will be his only outdoor show this
year. John said “We’re getting ready to
start rehearsals for the Whispering Jack tour next week and our show at the
Sydney Telstra 500 will be the final one on the tour. What a great way to end 2011.”
It’s fair to say that great Aussie rock and
motorsport go hand in glove - a partnership that saw 166,723 new and faithful
fans head to the Sydney Olympic Park circuit in 2010.
The NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation,
Graham Annesley, said “V8 Supercar fans will be treated to three days of racing
action in Western Sydney complemented by two
nights of concerts led by iconic Australian rock group and ARIA Hall of Fame
members Hunters & Collectors.
“Since the V8 Supercars event was first
staged in Sydney
in 2009 more than 350,000 people have attended this premier racing event.
“V8 Supercars Australia has done a great job
in making this a marquee event for NSW and this year’s entertainment line-up
for the Sydney Telstra 500 confirms they are committed to making this year even
bigger and better for fans,” Mr Annesley said.
The Sydney Telstra 500 is three-days of
awesome, non-stop entertainment combining a hair-raising street race with two
nights of sensational concerts. Fans can
enjoy it all with the 3-day Rock n’ Race pass for just $133. Public transport
is also included with pre purchase ticket on select services.
“The after-race
concerts bring together two of the passions we share with race fans – V8
Supercars and Aussie music legends. Fans can get revved up by reliving all the
hits on BigPond Music,” said Richard Howarth, General Manager Sponsorship and
Reputation, Telstra.
But it’s not all about the music. In 2011, the popular Armor All Auto Show
promises to be Australia’s largest private car show with private collectors
showing off some priceless vehicles from every part of the country.
From rare cars to cartoons coming to life,
car fans of all ages are in for an awesome experience as Disney.Pixar’s CARS
Truck Tour makes its final V8 Supercar stop at the Sydney Telstra 500. A world-first attraction, the CARS Truck Tour
is a mobile themed attraction housed both inside and outside of a life-size
MACK the Transporter. One not to be missed!
